South Australia is the first state to authorise pharmacists to administer all vaccines to patients of all ages, according to the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA) this month. The new legislation allows pharmacists to self-determine their scope of practice, streamlining administrative processes and broadening access to both travel and private vaccines. “Pharmacists are trained immunisers who should be able to vaccinate against any condition, as other providers can,” said PSA general manager Chris Campbell. The updated legislation also future proofs the state’s immunisation framework, ensuring rapid vaccine deployment during future public health crises.
